Dan will be joining our gathering from San Antonio, TX where he lives, teaches, and practices. He’s part of the more recent wave of internal family systems (IFS) trainers who have had the benefit of working with, being mentored by, and learning from most of the Senior Lead IFS trainers. He integrates the work of those founding teachers while explicitly and implicitly guiding sessions and learners to trust, experiment with, and attune within the unfolding relational process. Dan specializes in supporting men, leaders and executives, and IFS therapists & practitioners as they continue developing as people and professionals.
You may or may not know Dan from writing a chapter for the Internal Family Systems Therapy Supervision and Consultation book after forming a grounded theory of IFS informed supervision for his dissertation. He’s been formally and informally exploring movement, spirituality, the ground of being, and energy in various forms for the last 25 years. There was also a time before time when Dan used to teach physics. When you’re with him, you will find him continually breaking down how things work to their fundamental form and experientially inviting us all to play with how they function together.
Dan teaches and embodies a principle-based way of working that allows us to move beyond, while still including, the steps and flow of the IFS model. He trains people in embodying IFS for themselves and for the people they work with and for. This requires us to value developing internal relationships, but equally important, we must develop skill:
interpersonally,
cross-culturally,
and in accessing the larger field of awareness
(that we in IFS call Self Energy).
Over the last several years, Dan has been deepening in all of these areas by investing in relationships and feedback within the IFS community and beyond. The biggest things that Dan has learned and will share as our process unfolds together is that we, the facilitators, have to and get to matter; we are always receiving help (even more so when we ask); and the many layers of the relational phenomenological now will help us and the client if we let it. So come on out and experience what this means by being part of and engaging with a demo session with Dan & a wonderful volunteer in IFS Demoz!
