Kathy Cox

Kathy Cox, MSW, LICSW is a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist, Consultant, and Lead IFS Trainer. In addition to IFS training, she offers consultation to therapists learning Internal Family Systems.  Kathy also offers experiential retreats and workshops working with polarizations around climate change, with religious (and anti-religious) parts and burdens of clients and therapists, and with parts and burdens that block our full expression in the world.  She has been a social worker and psychotherapist for 30 years and has been deeply immersed in IFS for more than 20 years.

Kathy believes that our most important life task is to bring our unique gifts into the world. Frequently, painful life experiences — traumatic events, attachment wounds, societal injustices — take away precious life energy that limits our ability to bring these gifts into the world. Kathy feels called to support people to lessen or remove emotional, cognitive, or spiritual barriers that limit their full participation in life. This includes addressing and working with the impact of systemic racism, climate change, and other societal forces on one’s life.

Kathy has a special interest in trauma, grief and loss, and spirituality, and is known for her humor and warmth. She identifies as an elder, a white woman, and is the mother of two grown sons and their partners who motivate her to live an awake life.  Kathy lives with her husband in Olympia, Washington, where she is nourished both by her human community and by the surrounding lands and waters.
